A New Dawn for NJ Theater: Auditions for Midnight at the New Dawn
As the vibrant arts scene in New Jersey continues to flourish, Maurer Productions OnStage is set to hold auditions for its highly anticipated world premiere, Midnight at the New Dawn. Scheduled for June 6-7, 2026, this lively ensemble comedy invites local talent to bring their passion for performance to Mercer County Community College.
A Play That Relates to Real Life
Midnight at the New Dawn, penned and directed by acclaimed playwright Dan Maurer, presents an engaging narrative that revolves around four couples navigating their relationships in the confines of a New Jersey diner as the clock strikes midnight on New Year’s Eve. With only two hours left until the new year, every character faces pivotal decisions that might radically alter their futures.
Described as Neil Simon-style humor with a contemporary twist—complete with Wi-Fi—this play aims to explore deep-seated human emotion while maintaining a light-hearted atmosphere. "These are people you know. They may even be you," states Maurer, emphasizing how the stories are reflective of daily life and the complexities of love.
A Unique Opportunity for Aspiring Actors
What truly sets this audition apart is the collaborative nature of the production. Selected actors will engage in the play's developmental process, offering their insights during character discussions and table readings. John Maurer, Creative Director of Maurer Productions OnStage, notes, "Their voices, their instincts, their chemistry will influence the final product,” highlighting the rarity of such an opportunity in community theater.
Auditions will be held from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM on both June 6 and 7, with callbacks scheduled for June 9 from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM. Participants must be at least 16 years old, and diverse performers from all backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
Commitment to Inclusion in the Arts
In keeping with their dedication to diversity, equity, and inclusion, Maurer Productions OnStage, along with Kelsey Theatre, promises to create an environment that welcomes individuals of all races, genders, and abilities. This important initiative will not only reflect the community but also foster a richer narrative tapestry throughout the production.
