Discover the Vibrancy of New Jersey's Art Scene at Garden State Art Weekend
From April 17-19, 2026, New Jersey invites art lovers and curious visitors to immerse themselves in a remarkable celebration of creativity during the third annual Garden State Art Weekend (GSAW). Over these three dynamic days, 103 venues across 18 of the state's 21 counties will showcase the extraordinary talent of local artists while offering a unique opportunity to explore a wide array of artistic expressions.
A Journey Through Art
For many, art isn't just about enjoying beautiful paintings or sculptures; it's about engaging with the stories and people behind them. GSAW is designed to highlight the incredible cultural tapestry of New Jersey's art scene. With 31 new venues and four additional counties participating, this year’s festival is an invitation to explore artists' studios, contemporary galleries, and vibrant community art spaces, all accessible through a digital guide that enhances your experience by filtering options by county and type. Alison Pirie, Co-Director of Garden State Art Weekend, emphasizes the importance of viewing local talent, saying, “This weekend is a statewide invitation to stop looking across the river and start exploring the incredible art and institutions right here in our own backyard.”
Festival Events You Can’t Miss
Kicking off on April 16 with a special meet-and-greet event at Lackawanna Station, attendees will have the chance to receive insider tips and discover the participating venues while mingling with fellow art aficionados. For those eager to delve deeper into the creative process, the festival headquarters at Manufacturers Village Artists in East Orange will open over 60 professional artist studios for public tours on Saturday and Sunday, allowing visitors to witness firsthand the inner workings of artistic creativity.
Emphasizing Local Growth and Community
This year’s expansion into South Jersey is a testament to the festival's mission of inclusivity and community connection. New venues in counties like Camden, Cumberland, Burlington, and Cape May bring art closer to more residents, fostering a shared appreciation of local creativity.
Connecting Families and Art
For families, this event serves as an excellent opportunity to introduce children to art in an engaging way. Families can explore hands-on workshops, community art projects, and interactive exhibitions designed specifically for young audiences. Not only will children have fun, but they’ll also gain valuable learning experiences that inspire creativity.
